On 3rd of March Bulgarians celebrate the Day of Liberation. It is a National holiday in Bulgaria and it is celebrated since 1991. In this post we will present you three monuments located in the capital Sofia and related to the events and participants in the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878) and graded not according to their importance, but according to the years in which they were discovered.
Recently, a dispute has arisen over the origin of martenitsas. According to one version, this amulet dates back to the time when the Thracians lived in our lands and hung red threads on their livestock to protect it from disease. The other theory takes us to the period when Khan Asparuh began to form the Bulgarian state.
March 1st is one of the favorite holidays of young and old Bulgarians. With it we set the symbolic beginning of the new economic year, spring and the rebirth of nature. On this day, everyone decorates not only with the martenitsas that their closest people have given them, but also with a smile and hope for a new, better start. We will try to convey the festive mood of this day, while introducing you to the little-known ancient customs and traditions associated with it.
