WINTER TOURISM IN BULGARIA
Bulgaria, being part of the Balkans, has a lot of mountains. Even if they are not so big and high like the Alps, you can still find really good winter resorts where you can enjoy snowboarding and skiing. Our most famous resorts are:
- Bansko ski resort is situated in the Pirin Mountain, Blagoevgrad province. We could say that it is the best winter resort in Bulgaria. Every years it is a host of the World ski cup. It has over 60km of slopes with different difficulty situated between the elevation of 990 and 2560m. Bansko offers a big diversity of typical restaurants, bars and mineral spa resorts.
- Borovets is the oldest Bulgarian ski resort, situated above the town of Samokov and beneath Musala peak in the Rila Mountain. It takes only hour and a half drive from Sofia, which makes it preferable for many people from the capital. There are 58km of slopes with different difficulties situated between the elevations of 1,300 and 2,560 m.
Pamporovo is located in the Rhodope Mountain, Smolyan Province. The resort offers 29.6 km of slopes and 13 lifts. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,620 and 1,926 m.
